Question What do I need for a TV Tuner card to work?

I heard that you can turn your PC into a TV.

Apart from a TV Tuner Card, what else is needed to make the transformation?

And can you suggest any brands which are good value?

Thanks!!!!

Just software, that will almost certainly come with the tuner card. I have an ATI TV-Wonder PCI from about four years ago. For watching TV, it does fine (the ATI software bundle is very nice). The card doesn't record so well, but my guess is any modern one will do better at that, if that's even a concern. Besides, I have a VIVO video card and a IEEE1394 card for DV, so I don't have to capture anything with it anymore.

Yep all you need is a TV Tuner card. And of course, an antenna hooked up to it, or cable/satelite input or whatever you have. The card will come with all the software you need to watch tv, capture video/sound, and there is also many free software all over the internet.

Some TV tuners are built right into the video card, like ATI cards, but if you already have a good video card then it wouldn't make much sense to get one of those so just get a regular pci tv tuner. If you don't have a free pci slot, they also make them as external cards (hooks up through your usb port).

What brand to get? As far as I can tell it doesn't matter, because almost all TV tuners come with the BT-848 or 878 chipset so they all perform the same.

I was lurking here and came across this thread. I know it is an older topic but it is exactly what I am looking into. I have an ATI 9600XT card and am wanting to do some wideo capturing. Will the TV card allow me to capture video from say a VCR or vid cam? I am not really wanting to get rid of my 9600. Thanks in advance.
