Writing wav files.

Dear members,
i would like to start by apolagising if this post is in the wrong forum as i am new.

I want to create a wav file that will play a specific note.
i have writin the hex code in the correct format but when i go to play the file it says format not supported.
could anyone tell me where im going wrong.

try posting this in the beginners forum, most of the hard core programmers read it, i know drgroove and others post there. they would be the people to see.
my programming knowledge produces pretty blue screens, so.............
