Can only start service from CLI

I can only start the MySQL service from the command line. Not from the Services snap-in. This is Server 2008. The only way I can start it is by using the CLI to go to the appropriate folder and then running mysqld. From the GUI it just dies. This is a fresh install. Please help!

Thanks!

This is not really a MySQL question. You need to post this on a Windows Server forum.

Is the service running under the same account that you are using to start it from the command line? Also is mysql in PATH variable?

Yes and yes. I even tried deleting the service and then letting the MySQLInstanceConfig.exe wizard recreate it but no joy.

Aha! It only can start the service if I select the "Non-Transactional Database" in the wizard. Otherwise it fails to start the service! Hmmm...

Just found these in Event Viewer...So for some reason it doesn't like InnoDB, only MyISAM!!??...

1. Unknown/unsupported storage engine: INNODB
2. Plugin 'InnoDB' registration as a STORAGE ENGINE failed.
3. Plugin 'InnoDB' init function returned error.

I think I've fixed it. Finally!... 8P

Per this link...

http: //www firewing1 com /node /17

I deleted the following files...

ib_logfile0
ib_logfile1
ibdata1
$YOUR_HOSTNAME$.err

...from the following paths...

C:\Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.5\data

C:\ProgramData\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.5\data

Then the wizard let me choose an InnoDB Database and start the service!
