hey guys i need some help with setting windows 2003 IIS with mysql 5 what do i do to rewire the password thingie??

Are you getting the exact same error message as the title of this thread? if so read through the thread. If not your question does not belong in this thread.

mysql> FLUSH PRIVILEGES;
This will reset the password to pre-4.1 style password. And it will compatible for working with PHP.

Let me understand, your saying that the problem is that a number of programs / applications haven't been updated to deal with this hashing algorithm, so what we're telling MySQL to do is to use the old 16-byte hash (SET PASSWORD = OLD_PASSWORD('devshed') ), or to assume that all the passwords are in the 16 byte hash form (eg: "mysqld --old-passwords &"). true?
