    Need Collations Help Please

    Hi, everyone.

I'm running MySQL 4.1.11 on Red Hat Enterprise 4. I installed the binary install, and it's the first time I did that. Usually I install from source, but I wanted to use the optimized binary this time.

Everything is defaulting to latin1_swedish_ci of course.

I want MySQL to do everything in American English. I don't know how to change the defaults (I can probably find that, but if someone could tell me the command that would be awesome) or more importantly WHAT to change them to? I see everyone recommend UTF8, but which one? utf8_bin? utf8_general? utf8_unicode?

And also, I will be importing a lot of tables into this new server. How do I make them default to the correct utf8 collation when they import?

I don't EVER want to receive a collation mismatch error or whatever. I want this server to always assume ONE collation.

    Thanks!

Use utf8_bin if you want it to be case sensitive, otherwise use utf8_general.

This does NOT sound right to me... Is crazytrain81 saying that "Hello" becomes "hello" ?
