    You need to give us a little bit more info. Are there any messages being logged in the *.err file? What exactly is generating the error message?

    Are you using ALTER TABLE ... RENAME ... syntax? What is the temp directory? Do you have permission to this directory? The mysql.err file should be in your data directory.

    i use ALTER to update the table

    *************************************************
    ALTER TABLE `session` CHANGE `section_id` `session_id` INT(11) DEFAULT "0" NOT NULL
    *************************************************
    and
    the temp directory is
    ***************
    c:\winnt\temp
    ***************
    i think this is a problem, so i give it "everybody" control and full access write, but it also display Errcode 13

    The mysql.err (I think there was no problem)

    You modify the
    {tmpdir#=}
    value in the my.ini file. Can you tell me the directory where the `data` files are stored?

    Set tmpdir# to a whatever directory you want it to be. To determine what it currently is you can run show variables from the mysql monitor.
