Getting a database and tables started with a script

How do you get a .sql script to create a database and tables to run in MySQL workbench ?

I tried the Edit SQL Script link with the Execute file after opening check box checked.
The statements ran by with 2 errors.
When show databases was run, there was nothing new there.

Is reverse engineer sql script what to do or something else ?

    After I get a script that's ok,
is the clicking the Edit SQL Script link and checking the Execute file after opening check box the right way to do this ?
It seems to work with a simple example.

That it is a way to do it, but maybe not a good way for some reason. These things are new to me.
The errors were "1046 No database selected etc."
