Linux login authentication use mysql

Any one know how to login linux use mysql database to authentication instead call /etc/password files .
I know /etc/nsswitch.conf can setup this case but database is using nis not mysql.

Due to I want to develop the web mail using mysql to login out instead the /etc/password files.
