I am trying to get a mySQL table to store Japanese characters. I don't need to see them , just need to retrieve the same thing I sent it. However right now mySQL just refuse to store the whole record at all.
In a LINUX file, japanses appears in garbage like:
Why can't mySQL just store the same thing? How can I solve this problem?
Thanks for your help in advance.

Thanks for your reply.
But I think MySQL has Japanese support now: I have a directory /usr/share/mysql/japanese (and many other languages) that comes with the RPM installation of mySQL. I just dunno how to use it.

Yon can recompile MySQL with characterset option.
#./configure --prefix=/usr/local/mysql --with-charset=euc_jp
