With a large database on the web should I be looking at Roxen or PHP or ? for searching several fields, bearing in mind that I will probably have to pay someone to write it! Thanks Pete a beginner.

The scripting language doesn't matter as the db itself does the search.
That said, PHP has the easiest to use interface to MySQL, and it's quite easy to set up dynamic queries. Also, since you are going to contract out the work, PHP, Perl, ASP, and CF are your only real choices in finding someone to do this. Since you are asking about PHP and Roxen I assume ASP and CF are out due to the price tag. A Perl developer will cost more than a PHP one simply due to the amount of development time. In summary: PHP! |
