I've just installed MySQL v3.23.21-beta from source after uninstalling a previous RPM version.
I built and installed it as in the docs: shell> configure shell> make shell> make install shell> scripts/mysql_install_db shell> /usr/local/mysql/bin/safe_mysqld & But the last stage, safe_mysqld always gives the error: chown: too few arguments Try `chown --help' for more information. Starting mysqld daemon with databases from /usr/local/mysql/var mysqld daemon ended This new mysql version is part of my server upgrade to php4 etc- so much hassle that i wish i'd never started ;-) Thanks, Tom |

Fixed it!
Turns out that my redhat box has a different location of the tmp folder. All i did was make a new tmp folder in the root of the hard drive and then the safe_mysqld could write the mysqld.sock file. Easy when you know why! |
