Slow Mysql

I recently converted from mysql 4.0 to mysql 5.5.Everything slowed down.I dont know why.The queries seems ok.Just a normal select query. No group by or anything like that. Is there something i can do to speed up my program. I have a table with about 60000 records in.Thats not that much hey. All teh keys are in in each table. No fire walls present. It just takes long.

Any ideas please

Re

Ok computer specs 4 GB of ram, 1TB harddrive, 3.0 Core 2 Due cpu.
Ona network about 10 clients connect to this. They work all at the same time.Mysql 5.15 myisam table types.

Like i said i have a few tables with the one almost 60000 records. When i select out of any table it is slow. When i connect with my program (ODBC connection) it takes about 10 seconds to come up.And then about 20 seconds per select query.

Any ideas?

have you run EXPLAIN on your queries?

Can you show us an example of a query that runs slow?

Did the upgrade get done on the same machine as was running mysql 4?

60000 records is not significant at all so it may be something else.

Yes first do as Guelphdad sugggests and check if it's actually the query that is slow.

And if the query is fast then the next step is to check your infrastructure.
I connections are taking a long time then you can have a badly configured DNS because MySQL tries to perform a reverse lookup in the DNS to get the client name from the ip address. And if this lookup times out you can get very odd and slow connection attempts. You can also turn of this feature but then you must use only IP-addresses in the MySQL authentication tables:
skip-name-resolve
