SUBSTR function on a null column?
How do you use the SUBSTR function on a column that is null?

What happens when you use a function (like substring) on a column that IS NULL? This is the question for a class I'm taking and I just don't get it for some reason.

the exact same way that you'd use it on a column that isn't NULL
