I'm trying to move a database from one machine to another by doing a mysql dump in phpMyAdmin and get a message in the last line of the sql file " Fatal error: Maximum execution time exceeded in lib.inc.php3 on line 287. Does anyone know how to increase the maximum time?

In PHP default is 30 seconds maximum for a script to run. You can extend it with:
set_time_limit(number of seconds);
set_time_limit(0); // no time limit: forever
set_time_limit(600); // allow execution for 10 minutes max.
The reason a time limit is imposed? I guess so you don't have to re-boot the system.
Suppose you had a bug in a loop that ran forever. Your site would be down unless you either kill the process or re-boot. Hope this helps you out.
