I am very new to mysql...and couldn't find the answer to my question on my own...but here goes:

I am telnet connected to mysql. I simply want to spool data out to an external file. In oracle I would "SPOOL filename", do my select, then "SPOOL OFF"

How do you do the equivalent in mysql?

well, I discovered that I could use

    "mysql < batch-file > mysql.out"

to get the output in an external file, so that helps, but am I to assume this is the only way to get output to go to a file when working from a telnet session??
