Please help to put me out of my misery!

I have managed to get Telnet Access to the server hosting my site and I want to take a backup of the mysql database I created.

I have logged on to mysql ok and I am trying the mysqldump command but I just get syntax errors!

I have the book New Riders MySQL book and mysqldump looks so simple.

    I am typing -

mysqldump mydatabasename > backup.sql at the mysql prompt

I have even tried using mysqldump on mysql running on my PC and I still get a syntax error.

It is prablably a really stupid error but it is doing my head in! Can someone please help

    Thanks

    Hi

Sorry I finally managed to solve it, you run mysqldump BEFORE actually logging in to mysql

It is amazing what a break can do when you can't see the wood for the trees!
