    I run "mysql [dbname] <Top100Qu"
    file Top10Qu reads as follows;
    SELECT demandbase.oescode,oesname.oestitle,demandbase.level,demandbase.2001est, demandbase.jobsavial
    INTO OUTFILE "/home/drdata/f410/Top100XLS.txt" FIELDS TERMINATED BY
    " " FROM demandbase
    LEFT JOIN oesname
    ON oesname.oescode=demandbase.oescode
    LEFT JOIN clusterworksheet
    ON clusterworksheet.oescode=demandbase.oescode
    WHERE demandbase.level !="1" AND demandbase.level !="2" AND demandbase.level !="3"
    OR demandbase.oescode ="*99"
    ORDER BY demandbase.oescode DESC

    and i get the following error
    ERROR 1045 at line 1: Access denied for user: 'drdata@localhost' (Using password: YES)

    problem is i can run this as root .. so it is permissions.
    my GRANT command is set but there is no grant permissions for OUTFILE.
    the Directory into which i write is ok. chmod 777 in that directory 'f410'.

    i have a similar problem when i run mysqlimport.
    any suggestions?

    You need to enter a username and password ie
    mysql -u username -p password then the rest of your commands

    Thanks. i got side tracked on another project
    .. i tried this before and again after you sent this. it does not solve the problem.
    i thought perhaps it was that i did not have permission to make changes in the database directory..
    /var/lib/mysql/
    and indeed that is owned by mysql with no other prevs other than mysql. but i doubt that a chmod will do any good as i with grant all was able to use and write into the data base..
    i have looked though the mysqladmin commands and find nothing that helps.
    any further suggestions.?
    thanks jim
