    Try this:

    [root@lh /]# mysqladmin -u root -p password 'newpassword'

...then you'll be prompted for the old password..

    Enter password: oldpassword

    This should work...

OK. You must put the new password between quotes:

mysqladmin -u root -p password 'newpassword'

    NOT

    mysqladmin -u root -password newpassword

'cause password is a command and you pass 'newpassword' as an argument

then you'll have to insert the old password.

If you still have problems (but I guess you won't), you can get an idea of it by typing:

    mysqladmin

    (you'll get help)

    Hope this helps.

Yes, I did what you said by entering new password between the qoutes. After I type it
it went to "Enter Password" so I use the new password I type in between qoutes.
But I stil can create table.

Also, why is it then when I type mysql front # I got this
""Error 1045: Access denied for User; 'root@localhost' (usingpassword:NO)"

Here is what you should enter EXACTLY, as specified by eepyoga. Do not change a thing, except for replacing newpassword with your real new password.

mysqladmin -u root -p password 'newpassword'

Then you will be asked to enter the old password. Do it.

AFTER THAT, whatever you specified for newpassword will then be your new password.

    ...and:
    - do not put the old password between quotes
    - simply press the 'Enter' key (when you're prompted for the old password) if you didn't have a password specified previously

(tip-> When you will use mysql in the future type:

    mysql -u root -p

THEN you'll be asked for the password...)
