Is ASP.net best for developing E-commerce websites?

I'm in the process of developing a commercial interactive website .I wander if using ASP.net will be appropriate for
my project.Note that I'm a beginner in visual basic.What do you think ?

Wow, now this is a question that will get you a lot of different answers.

The answer is that yes, it can do e-commerce just fine, but is it the best way?

People will debate that until your blue in the face. My answer would be that if you use a lot of Microsoft software and MS SQL Server, then it would be one of the best ways to go, but also one of the most expensive. There are other options like .jsp, Perl, and others, but for you, since you are into VB, ASP.NET is probably the best way to go. More GUIs and such and less programming with ASP.NET. A lot of us here like the more programming and less GUI stuff......I am one of them.
