To be honest, I am not sure if it's possible. I am a PHP fan, but PHP and Apache don't run the same on Windows as they do in Linux. Being in a Windows-only shop kind of inhibits my ability to run Linux here, and I don't really want to run it at the house.
I've found Linux to be more of a hassle than its worth, but thats probably also due to me being a creature of habit, and very comfortable with my abilities in Windows.
That said, I spend most of my time writing classic ASP on Windows 2000 here at work, because of the portability of it all. Although, ASP is more of a pain in the *** than PHP, it's not quite as tough as PHP on Linux when your a MCP (windows guru).
I've been toying with ASP.NET and I do not hate it. I agree with you completely. "Drag and drop" webdesign in VS.NET sucks, maybe for old VB developers of long love it, because it allows them to write web applications, but for me... it takes the control out of it. Instead of physically designing how the site is rendered with the HTML, I am stuck using funky Microsoft controls that want to enslave me in their way of thinking.
I like C# alot, but ONLY because it has that familar C syntax, if .NET was VB only, I'd hate it. Right now, I'm just uncomfortable with it, I'd much prefer be a specialist in C/PHP... but what uses does that serve in a Windows environment? The company I work for is a windows-.NET shop, so I mean... I dunno if I should conform, or do what I like nothing that I sacrifice alot of usability for control in the LAMP (Linux Apache MySQL PHP) model.
BTW, I love MySQL compared to Access/MSDE/SQL crap.
