2 windows xp machines cannot see each other
I have 2 machines, one has a cable modem w/nic and a 2nd ubs/ethernet adapter. The other machine has a nic and both are attached via a hub. Used Home Networking Wizard to configure everything. I done hookups like this before with no problem but this time my pcs cant see each other.
Home networking assigned pc 1's ip to 192.168.0.1 (to the ubs/ethernet adapter ) My second PC got assigned a 168. number and even configuring it manually to 192.168.0.2 still does nothing. The 2 do not see each other at all, no sharing no intenet on the 2nd machine. any ideas? |

Can I see the ipconfig for each computer? On each PC, click Start, Run and type cmd. In the Command Prompt type "ipconfig /all > C:\ipconfig.txt" (without the quotes). Copy the contents from that file for each computer into your next post.

The second PC has a problem in that it's IP address is not on the same subnet as the first PC. It has an automatically assigned address which isn't usually good. Manually assign it the IP address, 192.168.0.2, the subnet mask 255.255.255.0 and the default gateway 192.168.0.1. Then show me the ipconfig for that computer again.

I did try doing that before, here is the results.
Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection: Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.2 Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.1 I noticed that pc 2 sends out packets but recieves nothing on its connection and pc 1 shows no activity when I try to ping out to 192.168.0.2. |

Right, those IP addresses are now correct and should work fine. Firstly, let's try to get computer 2 pinging computer 1. If it sends out packets but doesn't receive anything, then the most likely cause is a firewall on the first computer. Disable anything like ZoneAlarm for the moment, and also make sure that the built-in Windows XP Internet Connection Firewall is disabled.
