2003 domain and logon prob.. pls help newb

hey every1... i have just dived into server 2003 and set it up.. i used the wizard to setup everything... im using a straight through cable

i have set my server static IP to 192.168.0.1 and the dns 127.0.0.1

i have also set my xp pro client to 192.168.0.2 and the dns and gateway to 192.168.0.1

i can ping both the client and server.. i have also put my workgrp to the same name as the server name... however when i try to logon to the server... i use the logon u/p of the server machine it doesnt work.. when i create a new user on the server and use it .. it doesnt work.. it says "bad username and password" or something the "server cant do the request"

i have also added the computer to the server... and also tried with a crossover cable

any more ideas folks, pls hjelp... cheers

Hi if you have noe switch or hub then you need to use a a cross over cable.

Have you loaded Active Directory on the machine? Have you setup any shares? When you say you can't logon please can you expand more on this - for example are you trying to logon locally to the server? Via Remote Desktop? or to a network share on the server?

Thanks
