98 faster network compared to XP

Hey all,

I have a windows nt4 domain with 98 clients.
As i wanna upgrade to XPPRO i have the following problem:

My company uses a software that reads TIF files from the server, on the 98 the transfer takes about 3 sec. and on the same computer with XPPRO it takes about 10sec.

Please advise,
