I have a two computer system. A wired desktop, and a wireless laptop. I want to be able to see and access all of the files / folders in the laptop from the desktop, but right now all I can see from each computer is the shared files folder in "network places"
How do I manage to see the entire laptop drive from the desktop computer so I can access it? I am running Win XP Pro on two new Dell computers with a Linksys wireless a & g broadband router and DSL. I have Zone alarm Pro on both stations. TIA Shrub |

If you have admin access to each computer, you can use the admin shares.
At the min, if you type in \\192.168.100.2 [or whatever your other pc's name or ip is, you'll just see the specific folders you've given access rights to, right? Well, if you try typing in \\192.168.100.2\c$, you'll have access to everything on the (C) drive [if there is one ], same for all the other hd's you have in the other pc.

WHat is the "admin shares and how do I access it? I couldn't locate that. Everything that came up in the help search was about Windows NT, not XP PRo

Thank you.
Edit: I did that, and it popped up asking for a password, with the username greyed out. In the greyed out username section you can see the laptop name followed by a "\" and the word "guest" I was told that having a guest desktop is a security risk for a laptop, so I turned it off. What should I do with that? |

Well even if you were to enable the guest account, this will only have read privileges to the hard drive - you need to be using an admin account to access this share properly. On both computers, use accounts with exactly the same username/password when both are administrators.

I do have that, do they both have to be open at the same time to the same account for it to work? |

No, you shouldn't actually need to be using both accounts at the same time. On one computer, you should be using an admin account. When you browse to the other computer, it should see that you're also a local administrator there (with the same username/password) and should authenticate you. So, you'll need to be using an administrator account on the one computer, and then on the computer you're accessing you'll need an administrative account created, although it shouldn't actually need to be logged on at the time.
