    accessing a NATed machine

Hi all, I guess this is probably a pretty basic question but I'm new to this networking lark.

I have three machines at home behind a firewall. On one I'm hosting a web page via appache. This works great if I'm at home but how can I access the machine externally.

In other words how can I punch through my external IP to the machine in question. I have heard of port forwarding and tinkered a little but I'm just plain stuck now.

    Thanks

    Jonnie

You need to set your router to forward port 80 to the internal computer hosting the website.

    thanks

Thanks, I have a netgear wireless DGM824M I believe. I'm trying to do just that at the moment. At least I know I'm on the right track now.

I suppose then its just a simple matter of forwarding port80 requests to the IP of the host machine.

Does this have any knock on effects with internet access for the other machines on my LAN?

    Cheers

No, it won't have an effect unless you're getting thousands of requests for your web page.

Cool, I'll give it a whirl as soon as I get back from work.

    Thanks again,

    Jonnie
