Accessing remote machine

Hello,

I have a situation where I need to access a remote machine in another network. We're trying to access a windows machine, via a vpn tunnel. The problem is that their subnet is the same as ours. Therefore when we try to log into the machine via ip, there will be problems.

What are some workarounds for this situation? Changing our subnet would be too much work right now.

Thanks

Why would there be a problem? Provided your VPN is setup correctly, once you use it to connect, you're a part of the network, with all of the credentials that your account has...

Well, there's someone that has told me there will be an issue, mainly: the remote machine is located in another companies' network and they use the same ip subnet. Therefore when we connect to their network, if I try to remote into the machine on their network via ip, the remoting software will look in our network and not find it (if we don't have a machine on our network with that ip) and stop. Or, if we happen to have a machine on our network that does have that ip, the software will connect to that computer.

This is what I have been told.

Yeller, you have been given correct information.

You can ask your VPN HOST to change the IP of the VPN Clients... as they are probertly using a DHCP to give that ip to you.

As a little info:
The reason it fails to find it is becouse when your pc sends the VPN request to your gateway(Your router) it will go look for the NET-ID of the recieving ip. As that's the same as your own NET-ID it will not route it thrue.

A lot of info about Subnetting: http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/CCNA_Certification/Addressing.

So the only way to change this is to either change the IP of the tunnel or your own.
Excample:
Your LOCAL IP 192.168.1.1
YOUR VPN IP: 192.168.2.1
REcieving IP Can be 192.168.1.1 again as they will see the 192.168.2.1 IP(If your VPN and routing is ocnfigured correctly.

Hope this helps
