Adding Wireless Router to Existing Network/Router ?
I'm new to this forum. I've tried searching for an answer but didn't find one.
I have a home network with a D-Link router and DSL modem. There are five computers wired to the network. I would like to add a Netgear WGT624 wireless router to my office computer so I can access it and the internet wirelessly through 1-2 of our laptops. I don't want to go completely wireless at this time. Where can I find out how to add this second router to my network (if it can be done at all)? I can't get it to work and assume I have to disable some settings, perhaps manually set up some IP addresses, etc. I'm pretty lost and any help is appreciated. Added: If possible, I'd like to attach the wireless router to at the office computer rather than at the hub with the existing router/modem... |

Have you already bought the wireless router? Because if you haven't, then you'd be better off just buying a wireless access point.

what's the difference?

I too have a wired LAN that I want to add a wireless access point to for my new laptop. I'm trying to determine what hardware I need. I want to keep the Linksys BEFSR41 because I have 2 PC's and a Mac already networked and it was a heckuva time getting that sorted out so I don't want to mess that up. TIA |

dr2200 your best course of action is to replace the present router with a wireless one. Since the wireless one can do both wired and wireless your config will be much simplier.
You could do a access point but it sounds like you already have surpassed your routers port count of 4 ports and you have a hub connected. By replacing the wired router with a wireless you can drop the hub [slows your network down], don't have to get a AP and you can have more than 4 pcs connected at one time. |
