Behind a firewall, bypass?
To the Moderator:
Firstly: The downloading of data through P2P and sharing software is NOT illegal. The use of the downloaded data is illegal, NOT the downloading of it. I have not said I am going to use the data! Secondly: I am trying to bypass my University firewall, which is permitted, including the use of P2P and sharing software! I am not breaking any rules and am totally with in my logical rights to post this thread in search for help regarding my problem. To the public: Hello everyone, I have been using eMule now for about a year. I have always given a good 25K up and respectable 40K down so that other can share, I have also always had at least 25GB in my shared folder. I am proud to say that I am a good eMule resident. However, I have just moved to university where they have a strict firewall that only has ports open related to eMail, HTTP, FTP and secure connections. As eMule runs on 4662 and 4672, this means I am unable to connect to a server and so this has taken me away from sharing files with others. It would be much appreciated if you be so kind as to guide me as to how I can bypass the firewall. I have looked at HTTP port tunneling but this all seems a bit too complicated. Can you recomment a service out there that would let me bypass the firewall? Or anything else? Thank-you. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Regards, Rue |

First of all, I have to agree with the moderator. This crap you give about not using whatever you download is nothing but B*S, and you know it.
Anyway, if your university allows for the use of p2p, why have they closed the ports for eMule? And why would they allow for users to bypass the rules they have set up...? Sounds kinda pointless with rules on a firewall if they allow everyone to bypass them at will. Your story doesn't hold up my friend... But on to your problem... I haven't used eMule myself, but the way I see it there are only two way to solve this problem. Either you change the port in eMule to work with a port that is allowed through the firewall, or you will just have to bite the bullet and RTFM your way to getting http tunneling to work. |

Nuff said. @madruenrg: Behave, wtf do you think the uni has the firewall blocking ports for? So people like you can't use p2p software. Quote:
So what you're saying is you have 25GB of shared [illegal] docs, music, videos, whatever that you don't actually use? I think not. wtf do you spend all your time downloading stuff for if you don't use it?

Blimey those replies made me laugh lol. Your ignorance makes me laugh.
![]() Regarding the laws on downloading, it is NOT illegal to download through P2P networks; it IS illegal to use the downloaded data. That is a known fact, and seeing as you did not know that, I am assuming you are not computer educated. The University have the ports closed because it is standard policy throughout Universities in the UK, as the education administration board makes it that way. The university has no choice in the matter. I do believe it is also because of the numerous Virus and Trojan attacks that are made on those ports. I can clearly see I have posted this thread in the wrong forum board as no replies have shown any sign of intelligence in technical issues regarding networking. Thank-you for your time. I will share my experience here with other top PHP programmers and will make sure not to post networking questions here again. Regards, Rue |

], you might want to do a bit of research. See his post count? Three and a half grand? Where do you think that comes from. In my experience on these boards, Doug is a very friendly, well educated guy. You might want to hang around a boards a little longer before you try to allienate everyone on them next time... ![]() Quote:
