Can connect to Internet via Router, but can't when I try through Switch.
Hi there, I have a Netgear DG834GT Router but I got it from my ISP so I can't go inside and change any settings.
So PC1, PC2 and PC3 (the other port is used by a Video-Game console) can connect through a wired connection to the router fine but I needed to add PC4. So I took out PC3's connection and plugged it into a 5 port Switch I bought and neither PC3 or PC4 can connect to the net through this switch. If I unplug the Router's connection that is in the Switch and plug it back in PC3, PC3 can connect fine... The connections from PC3/4 to the router are Straight-through and from Router to Switch is Straight-through too. Please help ... |

Odds are you need a crossover not a straight cable from router to switch if neither supports mdi/mdix

Turns out I didn't need a X-Over...
VERY odd solution... My mother who has no networking experience at all went to PC3 and switched around the Straight-Through cable... she got the end from the switch and put it in the PC and vice-versa This then allowed PC3 and PC4 to connect to the network and the internet strangest solution ever? Thanks for getting involved though ! |
