Hi
That's the problem. The situation is this (a little bit complicated): From the cable modem, one cable goes to a hub. From the hub, there are three cables. Two of them go (each one) to one Win98 comp. The third one goes to a Wireless Router, from wich one cable goes to one WinXP Pro comp. The last computer connects to the internet through the Wireless Router (passing through the hub and then to the cable modem). Do you get the picture ?? Hope so.The most I've been able to do is to share files between the two XP's (only between them), and to share files between the two Win98's. Note that the two XP's are connected trough the Router and the two Win98's are connected through the hub so for me it seems logical that they can connect each other. What's not logical is that I can ping between almost all of them, but I can't see them on the network in windows. Presently I lost the connection between the two Win98's and only have the two XP's sharing files. What's going on ??? Can somebody help me please ?? Thanxs a lot |

I forgot, all of them are on the same WorkGroup Name. I think the IP addreses and Gateways are causing problem.

Firstly, I think if I understand you correctly, that you've got your network setup wrong. The cable modem should connect directly into the wireless router, on the WAN or Internet port on the back.
Then, each computer should connect to the router. The one computer should be able to connect wirelessly. The wireless router will also have the ability to plug wired clients in, so for some of the computers should be able to connect by cables directly into the back of the router. If you want to use a hub as well, you should connect a cable from the uplink port of the hub into a port on the back of the router. When you've got all of the clients connected, make sure that the DHCP server on the router is enabled. Then, on each computer, make sure that they are set to obtain their IP address settings automatically. See if this helps. |
