cannot access certain websites (newbie)

i bought a netgear rp614v2 to network my computer, my brother's, and my xbox. everything connects without a problem and works fine. except, i can't get onto certain websites now. i've connected the cable modem directly to my computer and it lets me. but once i put the router on, it doesn't. i dont have any firewall software activated and i'm not blocking any sites through the router configuration page. what's the problem and how do i fix it?
