cannot receive http
Fixing my boss's laptop. For some reason it cannot surf the net. Its on a router using DHCP which is connected to cable modem. Laptop is running Windows XP with SP2, SiS900 nic.
The router can see the laptop and gives it ip: 192.168.1.102.
The laptop cannot see other computers on the network and other computers cannot see the laptop.
The laptop CAN ping:
127.0.0.1 (loopback)
192.168.1.1 (router)
216.239.57.99 (google.com)
Using IE 6, and Mozilla: Typing any URL or IP in the location bar results in a "page not found" error after timeout.
I've check all the processes in Services but nothing looks incorrect. I did see that novell was once install and Norton stuff is on the machine but disabled. The drivers for the nic are from 2001, but I cannot update because the CD Rom/Floppy drive are busted also. So only way to xfer files is through a network.
Any ideas why it can ping everything but not surf?
