Components tested and ok.
i plugged my laptop into the same cable and it doens't recognise the connects (cable unplugged) but plug the cable back into the irritating PC and the connection is there...but i still can't access the network or internet ![]() I am now lost completely!! Im going to look at the possibility to running another cable but not sure..i might need to share another one?? is there such a thing as a spliter for a CAT5 Cable?? Cheers RF |

If you're sure that the actual hardware works, then the cable sounds funny to me. If you laptop works connecting to the network with a different cable, then I guess there is something strange with the cable you're trying to use. Get a different cable, check that it works in your laptop, then try it in the main computer.

mmm, if it is any cable then i have narrowed it down to the one in the wall
which is a big prob!! However i have a cable in the room above and i could use that if there was a CAT5 splitter?? Do you know if there is such a thing?? thanks Frog |

This might be what you are looking for:
http://www.netshop.co.uk/products.f...8AMD&codep=CE45 but if you have a spare hub/switch, this would also work. |

the hub/switch i need is for a print server that i have!!
i could move the irritating computer into another room to test to see if i can configure it from a different socket just to make sure it is the cable in the wall before i go any further !! cus it would be sods law that it will not be the problem if i spend hours replacing it ! Frog |

Progress made
-- well kinda ![]() i have got a very very long cable between the annoying computer and the hub and it works so i can conclude that the cable in the wall is a pain. I am going to rewire a socket AGAIN and see if that solves it otherwise i will have to bring in a new cable ![]() just thought u might like to know that progress can be made with long cables !! RF |
