client problem with internet

i have a problem with the client pc on my network - i have 2 pc's connected to a belkin router and blueyonder modem. I cannot get onto the internet on the client pc, i can view and share files and i can also use the internet on the host pc. It seems that on the client pc automatically assigning an ip address brings up a 168.0.0.0 in ipconfig, which in the router manual says is in-correct when this is in use i cannot share file with the host or use the internet. How-ever when i assign an ip (192.168.2.30) myself in network connections i CAN share files with the host but still cannot connect to the internet, i have also tried using the default gateway as the host ip but still no luck any ideas??

Are you running the newest firmware on your router and the newest driver on your nic card?

Have you also made sure that you're manually assigning a DNS server? If you don't know what address to use, you should be able to take the IP address used by the first computer (if this is working with DHCP enabled).

i have checked the firmware and its all up-to date, as well as the nic card. I am stil having the same problem even when assigning dns as the host pc ip address of 192.168.2.67, is there any chance a re-install of windows is in order or have u any more thoughts as to the settings ? I have asigned the client pc the ip of 192.168.2.41 and used the default gateway and dns server now as 192.168.2.67 but still only have access to the host pc and not the internet

The Gateway and DNS server on the client pc should be the lan IP address of the router not the host PC. If you look on the host pc copy the settings for gateway and DNS and make them the same on the client Note book.
