compaq proliant 3000 networking issue

Hi all,

I have three rack servers, all of which I am currently upgrading to windows server 2003. The first one I did a clean install on using the Compaq smart start utility to do the hardware configuration, then loaded server 2003 on. However, for some reason I can't get the box on the network, MORE THAN THAT, I can't even get a LAN connection to come up in my networking and connection folder when I run the install wizard so I can't change Ips, default gateways, etc. Has anyone heard of this issue? I tried to just make dummy connections using a dial up, and they have the icons appear, however it doesn't for the LAN connection and that is what I use to get on the network. Suggestions???

sounds like it hasn't installed the nic's... check device manager to see if they are sat in uninstalled/unknown devices section.
If they are then try to find a way of getting the drivers on.

If not then try slapping in any network card you have kicking around to get it onto the network and also check the bios if it is an onboard one to see if it isn't disabled.

ethernet controller

Well, I have made a development but the issue is still there. I did find out that the driver for the ethernet controller is not installed. Does this mean I have to pull the box apart to find the brand to get the driver? Or is these some tricky, easier way to do this as that would be a huge pain in the butt because its on a rack. Any suggestions SERIOUSLY appreciated...

does it just say "ethernet controller" or does it mention a brand?
if it is an onboard one you could prolly just go to hp's website and put in the model of the server and get them from there.
If not and you can't determine which one it is from either device manager or from looking at the back of the server you'll have no choice but to open it up and have a look I'm afraid...

I know how much of a ball ache it'll be - I spent 3 hours out of work last nite rebuilding a server cause it wouldn't let me swap out a hdd which was being mirrored!

It even caused the original hdd to blue screen on boot and it wasn't even in the system whilst I was working on it.. I just got fed up and slapped in a win2k3 cd and did it from scratch.. damn pc's!!
