ok, on the main computer (not the virtual one), open up VMWare Workstation. When it has loaded, select the virtual pc from teh favourties list in the left. Then, click the VM menu in the menu bar, and select the Settings option. Then, a window will open similar to the screenshot. Then, select NIC 1 from the device list, and you'll see what is in the screenshot.

sorry. For some reason I thought you were using VMWare Workstation (which is what I'm using). But in fact, you're using Virtual PC (something very similar). What an idiot I am... |

Hello!
I have two questions. First: Is it possible to only connect virtual pc to my own computer? If it is possible, than please write me the step by step solution. (I'm using vmware) Second: My computer is connected to a wireless network. It is possible to connect the virtual pc to this network? Thanks. |

In VMWare, you can use the Shared Folders option. In the settings for your virtual pc, click the Options tab and select Shared Folders. Make sure that they are enabled, and configure a folder to share. In the virtual pc, install VMWare Tools, and you should be able to access the shared folders by typing \\.host\Shared Folders in the address bar of Windows Explorer. Quote:
By default, the virtual pc should have the bridged network option. So any networks available to your main pc should be available to the virtual pc. |

Thank you for this quick answer!
I have only one problem with shared folder: My virtual machine is Windows 98, so I can't use this feature. By the way, my host operating system is win2k3 server and I installed windows 98 on the vm because some of my apps doesn"t run under win2k3. I successfully using the wireless connection now, but i have to keep connected virtual machine and host system even if wireless connection is unavailable. Is it possible? Thanks ![]() |

Ah, well I'm not sure then. I seem to remember that you can't get shared folders to work with Windows 98. Not sure if there is a workaround, but I'm not aware of one. Quote:
I'm not really sure what you mean by this. |

Sorry, I try to explain.
Basically I have only one machine and if wireless network is offline (sad, but it happens) I still want to keep my virtual machine and the host connected via the unplugged network card or via the disconnected wlan card. I hope you understand this. ![]() |

Well, I've never done anything like this before, but in the virtual machine settings, if you select the NIC, there's an option to make the network connection "Host-only". I think that's what you want.
