Virtual PC can share folders automatically for you. Edit the settings for the virtual PC and go to the Option tab. Click Shared folders. Make sure that they are enabled and then select the folders that you want to share. Boot up into the virtual pc, make sure that the VMWare Tools are installed, then type "\\.host\Shared Folders" (without the quotes) into the address bar of My Computer, and you should see the shared folders.

Does the virtual computer have a good IP address? Can you ping between the two computers?

Open a Command Prompt and type ping 192.168.0.1 (replacing that with the number of your other computer). If you want to check the IP settings, see the sticky at the top of this forum for details of using the ipconfig command.

Okay, I set ip on virtual to 192.168.0.6 ,the ip on main to 192.168.0.5 , subnet mask on both is 255.255.255.0 ,in main network connections my local connection is shown as unplugged,(its not connected to anything) and i have a network bridge that is enabled.
In virtual , the network settings are adapter 1:Shared Networking(NAT) and i have adapter 2 : not connected.
In virtual network places i have Local connection enabled and bridged , and a network bridge (enabled)
I used Win Ip Config on both , came up with the addresses no worrys .Does say services DNS,Routing and Proxy ARP are not enabled.??? Ping times out from both sides.(please remember i am a beginner at this so if i've provided useless info please forgive).
I still have a shared drive from main on virtual ,is this just a feature of the virtual program? Thanks again.

Now, I'm not sure about this, but although you are only connecting to your own computer, I think you may need to have this connected to something. Do you have a hub/switch you could connect your computer to, just to get the local connection connected to something?

If you open up VMWare, and select the settings for your virtual machine, click the Hardware tab and select NIC 1. Make sure that Connect at power on is ticked and Bridged is selected.

Have made some changes after reading some info.Main ip now 192.168.0.1 virtual ip 192.168.0.2,set gateway on virtual to main ip.
On virtual i can ping 127.0.0.1 and ping 192.168.0.2 no worrys.
On main i can ping 127.0.0.1 no worrys but cannot ping 192.168.0.1 (times out)
I have changed virtual network adapters to
Adapter 1 : Shared networking (NAT)
Adapter 2 :Nvidia nforce MCP Networking controller
In main LAC properties i have :
Client for microsoft networks
Virtual machine network services
Internet protocol
In virtual LAC properties:
Client for microsoft networks
Internet protocol
I am still looking for what you suggested last post.
Should I try using a second physical NIC since i have a hub?

You shouldn't do this, I don't think. Leave the default gateway blank.

Do you have any firewalls running on your computer? ICF or ZoneAlarm for example.
