Connect XP laptop PC to Mac via ethernet hub?

How do I connect an XP laptop to a Mac computer via an ethernet hub. After making the connections and running the "Network connection wizard" on the XP laptop and the equivalent on the Mac, the Mac could see the laptop but the laptop could not see the Mac. Any ideas?

I believe there is a protocol called AppleTalk? that you may need to have installed to communitcate with your Apple. Now I may be wrong, but I believe thats what its called.

Hi SuperSo84, the problem's not with the Mac but with the PC laptop. The Mac can read the files on the PC and the PC doesn't even register that the Mac is around! I think it might have something to do with the fact that I already have the laptop configured on a LAN for my work envirnoment and now the XP platform doesn't seem to want to let me set up another one for my home environment where I want to print on a printer which is connected to the Mac through an ethernet hub. How do I put two LAN configurations on the laptop without them 'negating' each other? Do I have to disable one before I can set up another?
