Connect XP PC to mac network?

Hi people,
It's my first day of work and i am trying to connect my XP pc to a Mac network , and surprise surprise. it's not working! Is there a way of doing this - the LAN seems to be connected - i.e. the cat5 cable is lit up and it's showing as connected under network connections, but when i open internet explorer it doesn't connect, saying the computer is offline.

Thanks

the network is prolly using either tcpip (very likely) or appletalk (unlikely).
If the network is tcpip then is there a dhcp server running? if so, check to see if you have picked up an ip. If not then you will have to set one up manually in the network settings.
I've never played around with appletalk so I won't be able to help you if the network is running that protocal

Also, you might want to go to the file menu in IE and check to make sure that there isn't a tick next to "work offline", if there is remove it by clicking on the option in the menu and then try hitting refresh.
