Connecting to a remote computer

Hello,

I am using Windows XP both at work and home. I was wondering if there is anyway to connect to my computer at home from work and view the files on that computer. I have tried the telneting and used the IP address of my computer at home, but it says access is denied or no permission. Is it even possible to do this?
There is a program on Windows XP, which I haven't tried, called "Remote Desktop Connection". Do you think that's what I have to use?

Remote desktop connection does just that and is pretty easy to set up. IIRC it's quite well documented in xp help (for once!)
Be aware the your work's and quite possibly your home's firewall would block it by default.
Hope that helps

Thanks alot for the reply. I actually happen to have firewall, do I have to change the setting on the firewall program or on this remote desktop connection wizard?

You'll need to open up port 3389 on the computer to which you wish to connect. Note that this computer (the one you connect to) needs to be Windows XP Pro, although you can use XP Home to connect to it.

Well the process will be different depending on what firewall you're using. If you have a router, then you should be able to find a section called "virtual server" (or something similar) in the web interface where you can open that port and forward it to the local network computer. If you don't have a router, but have a software firewall installed on the computer, you should be able to search the help documentation and it should tell you what you need to do.
