Here's my problem:
- Win2K computer that is shared by several people and infected with spyware. - Networked behind (and wired to) Linksys wireless router. - Went about removing spyware and now cannot ping anything but myself. Here's what I did: - Deleted obvious bad files and directories in 'safe mode.' - Removed starup registry entries for spyware. - Installed McAfee and removed whatever viruses it found. - Uninstalled TCP/IP and reinstalled TCP/IP from the D-Link DFE-530TX. - Ran lspfix, but it did not find any problems. - Rebooted (lots). My symptom: - I get the proper DHCP settings from the Linksys, but I can ping nothing but myself. (Errors range from 'timed out,' to 'not reechable, to 'hardware error.') - Other computers on the network are fine, both wired and wireless. My question: - How do I get a fresh install of TCP/IP? - Is there something else I can try (short of reinstalling the OS)? Thank you in advance. |

Not too sure... but if Win2k is really like WinXP go to My Computer->My Network Places->Network connections. Then right click on your connection and try "Repair", then reboot. If that doesn't work, try to uninstall the network adapter, reboot, and reinstall it. If that don't either... try doing a repair installation.
If that doesn't work then I guess you wouldn't have much of a choice but to reinstall Win2k... If you had a lot of "crap" on it, I'd suggest doing that... And besides it will be faster... ![]() |
