Dial-up connection on network

*sigh* ok...here we go

I have 3 computers set on a wired network, all running windows XP. I set up one of my computers on the network (old amd k-6) to run as a "server" to connect to the internet and use ICS to allow all other computers on the network to access the internet. Works fine, dials in perfectly and internet works fine on all computers, untill I get disconnected (dun dun dunnnn) in which the computer will reconnect seemingly perfectly. It establishes the connection and tells me I am connected. I go to access the internet (websites, AIM, pinging) and nothing...on any of the computers, the modem never even tries(doesn't send or recieve even a bit of data). The only solution to this problem is to reset the computer.

I set up another computer on my network to connect (built 2 months ago...its a fairly new computer) and set it up for ICS, however the other computer will not access the internet even after using the other computers connection (altho the internet works perfectly for other computers) until it is reset. This exact problem also occurs on my newer computer, however its about once a week instead of every time.

other things I have tried: 5 different modems (all internal), 3 different computers (including a P 133 with 48M of ram...on XP ), BIOS update, and thousands of clean installs of XP. I don't know if this problem occurs when not using ICS as both me and my sister use the internet every day, so turning that off while waiting to get disconnected isn't really an option.

seems to be a TCP/IP problem...and I dunno what to do...the only solution I see left is take a baseball bat to it. anyways, thanks for the help

I used a W2000 computer with dialup ICS for a year or so, and didn't experience problems like you describe. Maybe your ISP is the culprit.

yeah...I've been looking for months and I've only found one person with the same problem...they suggested it was a problem with the COM ports or something...either way their answer was vague and I wasn't sure how to fix this. I thought about trying an external modem...however I'm broke... I don't really see how it could be my ISP since my computer must be reset to fix it...I'm not sure tho. I'll look for a tech support line to call or something...
