dsl ..router help

i have dsl with a westell modem when i have the dsl going straight from the westell to any of my computers one is xp,2 are 98 i can access yahoo mail submit auction items everything perfect but when i run the dsl though my network everywhere router i cant go into yahoo mail or things like windows update but can do most everything else i have to hook my computer straight to the dsl to check yahoo mail or do windows updates how can you make it where you dont have to bypass the router to do these things
