File sharing solution for eclectic network

Hey all- soliciting advice for a file share / printer share solution for our eclectic home network. We have various machines and OS' that don't necessarily fit a specific model.

(1) XP Pro on a high end desktop that also boots Linux
(1) XP Home on a laptop
(1) Vista (Premium IIRC) on a new laptop (at least until I can get the Linux drivers to work)
(1) Linux server
(1) Linux laptop (older, rarely used now)

The printer is a relatively new generic HP inkjet, but not innately connected to the network.

Now, if memory serves me, XP Pro and XP Home don't play well together because Pro uses domains and Home cannot. No clue what Vista uses. So using Samba on the Linux server won't necessarily work, I suppose.

I'm thinking one of the standalone share devices might do it, such as the Linksys NSLU2, etc.

I don't want to spend any money if I can help it, but I'll pay out a little to get everything working harmoniously.

xp home, pro and vista all can work in a workgroup together.

Pro and home are basically the same except home can't join a domain.

Throw samba in here too, I have all mixed on my network without problems.

Hey thanks again. It took me under an hour (with reconfigurations, reboots, edits and configuring SAMBA) to get all 4 machines connected and working (along with print sharing).
