Yep - the default gateway and DNS servers from the XP's firewire connection.

Hi,
I removed those settings in thé XP firewire-adaptor and now the internet-connection keeps running on the XP machine when I activate the firewire connection. After that I tried to bridge the adaptors, but with no succes. I loose the ability to ping and have no internet on win 2000. |

Before you bridge the adaptors, can I just check that the Internet is working on the XP computer and that both of the computers can communicate (but the Win 2000 computer can't access the Internet).
When you bridge the adaptors, what settings have been given to it (IP settings). Could I check ipconfig again? Also, I think reading this would help: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/...d/02april22.asp btw... you'd really save yourself a lot of problems if you could connect the computers both directly to the router ![]() |

yeah I had communication between the two computers and I had internet on the xp machine at the same time. then i bridged the adaptors and assigned manually an Ip to it (with same subnet, gateway etc. as before, but another IP)
but after that no communiction works and no internet connection. |

Can you have a look at that link in the post above? You're using a wireless card to connect to your router aren't you? Go down to the section "Troubleshooting a Wireless Bridge". It may be that your wireless card doesn't support promiscuous mode and you need to set the adapter to ForceCompatibilityMode.

working!!
Thank you edwin, finally this setup works! Your hint with the problems of bridging wireless connections put me on the spot. I read the artikel and tried to reconfigure the wirless adaptor, but it wouldn´t work either!! But I´ve got a long enough cable, so I connected the XP machine with the router directly and bridged the connections. Now everything works. For updates once and a while it´s convinient even without the wireless setup. Thanks so much, Happy Easter! CU Eric |
