Further Network Problems
Trying to set up a Network, tried manually configuring IP and using the XP network setup wizard but constantly get "Network Cable Unplugged" but the cable is plugged in. Trying to connect 2 pcs together. Tried 2 different CAT5 cables but stilll no luck. What type of cable should I use and how can I tell by looking at the cable if its the right type, In the event that I have the right cable why would I by getting this error?
Any Help appreciated. |

If you're connecting two computers directly together you must use a crossover cable.

I have inspected my cables, one of them was not a crossover cable but the other one seems to be a crossover cable as the ends are different, i get the error mentioned above with both the cables what could be the problem?

Are the network cards working OK? If you're sure that one is a crossover cable, then perhaps something is wrong with the NIC. Try getting another one from a computer where it's definitely working. Also check that it's installed ok in the Device Manager.

You should try another cross-over cable, You have one cable that will not work and the other that you think is a cross-over cable may really not be and even if it is doesn't mean that it is good. You can go to any local Best Buy or Radio Shack or better yet some computer store can check the cables for you and if nothing else pick up a cheap network hub for $15. - $20. and this will eliminate the need for the cross-over cable.
