You should be able to configure the router to do what ZA does anyway.
Why are you getting flooded with viruses when you disable ZA? I really don't understand that comment.

I don't have a router
Hi,
I don't have a router, can't afford one just yet but it's on my shopping list. For now i have 2 lan cards and a crossover cable. I have messing about over the last few weeks learning how to nettwork my 2 pc's together for a file/sharing and internet share. I have got to the stage over the last few weeks where i could actually share files both ways and share the internet but only when i disabled the firewalls (XP & Zonealarm ) Once i disabled these firewalls to help set the nettwork up it was only a matter of time before a couple nasty virus's came in through the internet explorer. Some of which was not a problem, i managed to sort them out using AVG ( i have running all the time ) and housecall on the trend micro site, however the other day i was not so lucky, a trojan ppi.exe, detroie.exe and WUMARD.exe snook their way in and i was helpless to remove without reinstalling my host pc. This time around i have fetched every update possible of microsoft's update site and left the zonealarm running until i have courage to turn it off. Networking wise, i have got to the stage of internet share, but as yet no show in each others work group ( zonealarm ??? ) I have configured zonealarm to accept pings from my client so i have made a little progress. In the ZoneAlarm setup, there should be a section called trusted computer (or something like that0. From there, you should be able to enter in the IP address of the other computer, which should allow the firewall to function as well as the local network.

Hi Ed,
I have got into those settings on zone alarm and yes it has allowed me to ping and set a gateway up for the internet. At the moment, the client does not see itself or the host in workgroup and on the host PC it see's only itself. Not sure whats going on there?? 192.168.0.1 on host and 192.168.0.2 on client with the default gateway set at 192.168.0.1. net bios over tcp is enabled on both machines. Before last week's viruses i had got a complete network set up so as you can image i am a little peeved off |

Just looking around on the Internet, there is also an option something like "This computer is an ICS/NAT gateway". Double-check to make sure that this is enabled on the host computer. However, it also seems that this setting is not available in ZoneAlarm free edition.
Is there a security slider. If this is set at high, try moving it down to medium. |

settings on zone alarm
Hi Ed,
I'm using Zone Alarm Pro. I checked this box "This computer is an ICS/NAT gateway" and ticked it, it asks you for a local address, i choose the host address of 192.168.0.1 or should it have been the clients address? Darren |
