Help I am having a mare with workgroups
I have installed a home networking on me pc running xp. The internet works fine on my desktop and my laptop (wireless). When i use the home network wizard it all seams to go ok.
When I view my network connections I can see the lan connection and it says its working. But i can not access the workgroup computers. It tells me I don't have permisson to access the server and to contact system admin. I have checked that I am a administrator on my pc. I am using a netgear dg834g. I have tried everything. |

Can you check that you can ping from one computer to another?
If you can, make sure that on both computers the guest account is enabled. If that doesn't help, try using accounts on both computers which have exactly the same username and password. |

There must be some communication problem between the two computers then.
Click Start, Run and type "ipconfig /all > C:\ipconfig.txt" (without the quotes). A black screen will flash up. After it goes, open up My Computer and navigate to the C drive. You should see a text file called ipconfig.txt there. Copy the contents into your next post. Then, repeat this for the second computer. |

this is exactly what is says
workgroup is not accessible. you might not have permisson to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permisons. the list of work group servers is not availble |

Try opening Start, Run and typing cmd. In the Command Prompt type "ipconfig /all > C:\ipconfig.txt" (without the quotes). Then see if the txt file is created.
Are you using any firewalls on either of the two computers? This includes the built-in Internet Connection Firewall. |

That ipconfig thing should work. Click Start, Run and type cmd. In the Command Prompt type ipconfig /all . Confirm that you do get information about your computer's network connections. Then typing ipconfig /all > C:\ipconfig.txt should create a file called ipconfig.txt in the root C drive.
If you still can't get this working, can you just tell me the IP address/subnet mask etc. details for each computer manually. |
