Hi,
I have recently set up a computer, with 'Windows Server 2002', and it works fine, well at least for a few days, some times a few hours. Then all of a sudden it starts to talk to the router and visa-versa, but it does this far too much, it stops anything from traveling along the network at all? any ideas what this could be? I have installed these on my server: .Net Framework MySql MsSql I did have PHP but I think I removed it. Can any please help? Thank you in advanced, §tudz www.studzworld.com -- down due to sever problems |

No it is not a virus per say it is a buffer overflow that runs only in memory (basicly a bufferoverflow is when you log into a machine you get a username and password field if those fields are injected with a lot of characters more than the field can except it will flow over into a memory space in ram and will be executed if it is a program im not really good at explaining this in such a short writting hehe) when you reboot the server it will be gone untill reinfected it is not a file that is placed on the machine so your virus protection is useless. please read the security bullitins on SQLslammer

I have used Norton on the Server and it found a virus on the explorer.exe but... it says I need a patch to be able to remove it, but I'm not sure what version of IIS I have? as I have downloaded two patches one for IIS 4.0 andone for IIS 5.0. the 5.0 says it not able to run on my version of NT. and the 4.0 version runs a dos prompt then it closes, but the patch stills says I need to install the update?
I have tried to download the service pack for my NT server, but again I do not know which version to download? any help? I'm using Windows 2000 Datacenter Sever. so any help? |

to update windows and iis just goto windowsupdate.microsoft.com and let it scan your machine it will tell you what you need. for sql patches use the sql security tools from microsoft a link is provided.....

the vulnerability that is being exploited is not in the server os but in sql use the link above to patch sql with the sql security tools.

it wasn't the SQL, it was a virus that had got into windoes server
it was unremoveable, with out an update patch, which was not available for datacenter, so I was unable to remove it. got Server 2003 now, problems I'm having setting this up are immence. It wont assign an IP to itself, or a gateway, even when I set them they aint there. gonna go for a clean install. again... Thanks |
