Help need to configure TWO NICs

Hi, I have set two NIC on windows 2003 server, one is connected to internal network and other is to DSL. i have ip for internal net is 192.x.x.x and for other is 202.164.x.x.

i want free traffic within internal network however i also want to access my exchange server from remote locataion using the extranal IP.

can anybody suggest what is best way to configure two nic on windows 2003 server. i am running exchange server, a proxy server and oracle database on the same machine.

the one problem i am getting is . i am able to ping to local network through static ips but not able to ping through name. Netbios is enabled on internal NIC.

Hi,

Check out whether all the machine is in the same workgroup or not with ip 192.xx.xx.xx. Also you will not find any problem/difficulty in accessing your remote exchange server through external ip just configure the another ip with given default gateway, dns server and all required information.

Thanks, The two nic configured as
(first : for internal network)
ip :192.168.0.1
255.255.255.0
no gateway
dns : 192.168.0.1

(second) for internet access
202.164.x.x
255.255.255.0
gateways: 202.164.x.x
dns :202.164.32.x

The server netbios name is EOU. whenever i ping from server to itself, it always gives the second ip which is extranal ip. thats why i am not able to map to any local pc for network drive. however when i ping to EOU from any other workstation it gives the first ip.

secondly when i removed file sharing and microsoft client from from the second NIC, i am not able to open DNS controller and security policy.

actually i am aiming to filter traffic from the internal, while i do not want to restrict traffice from the internal network. i need 192.168.0.1 as a primary ip for the server. how can i do that in two nic, i guess other problems are due to this.

Hi,

Is your systems in workgroup or domain architecture? Also how many systems do u have? If you wish to access internet through external ip only at 1 pc then configure 1 nic respective with that ip & all details. While connect the rest of the system with ip 192.168.xx.xx with other nic in server(main pc).

If you wish to access the internet through all the pc then follow the ICS technology in which u need only 1 nic for entire network.

For ICS information search in google.com.
